FDSA
resulted from a merger of two associations in 1962.  One of the merged groups, that of funeral directors and embalmers, began in 1880 while the other group, representing livery owners, began in 1914.  Our current membership is approximately 125 funeral homes, funeral livery operators and service firms.

FDSA
provides a large number of programs and services that are of significant importance and value to our members.  Those include:

Insurance

We offer one of the finest insurance programs for funeral service through the McCutcheon Insurance Agency. This includes automobile and establishment liability and workman's compensation and the service provided is exceptional.

Pre-Arranged Funds

FDSA operates the FDSA Pre-Arranged Funeral Fund which is the depositary of Regular and Affiliate member's pre-need funds. This fund is professionally invested and managed. Nearly all bookkeeping functions are done for participants.

CE Programs

Continuing education programs are offered throughout each year for members and other funeral professionals. A wide variety of seminars are offered for the benefit and interest of those who attend.

Liaison

FDSA maintains an ongoing liaison with pertinent government agencies at all levels. We try to assist you with questions and concerns you may have.

Legislation

FDSA maintains a videotape and filmstrip library to assist its members when they present public information.

Newsletter A monthly newsletter is mailed to all members and those who are enrolled in the FDSA Subscription Service. This publication serves to inform readers of educational programs and other current events and bulletins.  As of April 6, 2006, advertising will be available in the FDSA Newsletter.  Click here for a copy of the Advertising Rate Sheet and Specifications.
Reference Guide

The Annual FDSA Reference Guide and Diary serves as a bible to those in funeral service. It lists members, cemeteries, hospitals, churches, registrars, includes a calendar section and has a compilation of relevant laws, rules and regulations issued by a number of governmental agencies.  Click here for an order form for the 2010 edition.

Employment and Labor Law Telephone Consultations

FDSA members receive FREE Employment and Labor Law telephone consultations.  The Unlimited Telephone Consultation Program from the law firm of Wessels Sherman, P.C. was approved in September of 2007.  As a membership benefit with no additional cost to FDSA members, utilization of this program can be touted as the “Best Management Tool Ever.”

Music Licensing

As a member of Funeral Directors Association Coalition, FDSA members can obtain a discount on music licensing fees.  Click here for a copy of the application.

Employment

FDSA maintains an employment service for funeral professionals by keeping a file of licensed funeral directors and apprentices seeking employment opportunities.  This can be helpful to our members and to those looking for employment.

Bargaining

Collective bargaining with Teamsters Local 727 is done on behalf of FDSA Regular Members regarding funeral directors, embalmers and livery drivers.  For frequently asked questions regarding FDSA and representation to the union, click here.

Funeral Flags

FDSA has an inventory of funeral flags for funeral vehicles.  These can be ordered directly from FDSA at a nominal cost.

Incident Forms

We provide assistance to our members regarding incidents with hospitals, nursing homes, agencies, etc.  FDSA follows-up on complaints and problems and reinforces the proper way to operate.  Problem solving through a large number of members is often most effective.  Click here for a copy of the FDSA Incident Report Form.
